Biography
Richard holds a B.A. in business administration from the University of Florida. He received his Juris Doctorate in 1974 from the University of Florida while he was playing football in the NFL. Richard was an All-American football and baseball player at U. of F. and was drafted in the 2nd round in baseball by the N. Y. Yankees and in the 3rd round in football by the Buffalo Bills. He chose football and played in the NFL between 1968 and 1973. While in college, he was selected as Offensive Player of the Year in the Southeastern Conference in football and won the school championship in billiards and ping-pong! After graduation, he turned to tennis and won several national titles and represented the U.S. at several international tennis tournaments. He has also been a TV college football analyst with the USA Television Network. Richard met his wife, Sharyn, when he was in law school and they have been blessed with four wonderful sons: Nicholas, Zachary, Jackson and Christian. Legal Achievements: Richard has been Board-Certified in Civil Trial Practice; has been selected as a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, which is recognition of the lawyer as one whose professional, public and private career has demonstrated outstanding dedication to the welfare of the community, the traditions of the profession and the advancement of the American Bar Foundation; has been Principal Lecturer at several National Business Institute Seminars, including "Trying the Soft Tissue Injury Case in Florida", "Expert Witnesses in Premises Liability Cases", "Medical Malpractice in Florida", "Bad Faith in Florida", "Where to Find Qualified Expert Witnesses" and "Auto Injury Cases for Paralegals". Published Articles: Journal of the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers: "Cases Permitting a Neuropsychologist to Testify as to the Existence of Injury & Causation"; Orange County Bar Briefs: "Status of the Law Pertaining to Neuropsychological Expert Testimony"; Journal of the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers: "Status of the Law Pertaining to the Seat-belt Defense". Community Leader: Member of the Board of Directors of Spouse Abuse, Inc., for over 12 years; Member of the Orange County Park and Recreation Board for over 5 years; Volunteer basketball and baseball coach for several years in various youth leagues; Pro Bono attorney for the Homeless Advocacy Project, providing legal assistance at the Salvation Army, Rescue Mission, Daily Bread and the Homeless Shelter; Head (volunteer) Basketball coach, The Christ School; Sunday School teacher, First Presbyterian Church; graduate, Leadership Orlando program; Officer, National Football League Players Association, 2007-present. Participates on a weekly basis delivering meals with Meals-On-Wheels charity and is a Volunteer Advocate for Children for the Legal Aid Society. |
